Phase 4 During Phase 4 the children will be learning a number of ways to segment the sounds in words and learn to blend them together. They will learn a number of consonant clusters , such as ‘bl’ and ‘str’. These can also be called consonant blends. By learning to blend these sounds together it will help them to read and spell words more fluently. Towards the end of this booklet there a number of example words for you to work through with your child.
