I am ecstatic to have the opportunity to teach you this year. This class is designed to move students to a higher reading level while incorporating strategies that will help in every class, standardized tests, and most importantly, in life! I believe communication is the most important skill we can learn, and reading is a key part of that. Together, we will bring your reading level to a place that will make you a better communicator and open your future to incredible opportunities. In this class, every student will have the opportunity to learn and succeed, but this will not come easy. Although everyone has the same goal in mind, we may take different paths to get there. Meaning: not everyone learns the same way. In this virtual environment, it is crucial to put forth extra effort and participation. I promise to give you my absolute best as a teacher to have you exceed those expectations, and in turn I expect the same from you. I have high academic expectations and standards set for this year, and I am very excited to see how much you will grow as a person and a scholar. Essential Learnings How I Run My Classroom: ü I will treat you with respect, so you will know how to treat me and your classmates. ü If you cause a problem, I will ask you to solve it. ü If you can’t solve the problem, or choose not to, I will do something about it. ü If you feel something is unfair, we can have a separate discussion about it after school, during lunch, or during office hours. ü Since we are conducting a portion of this school year through virtual platforms, I do not allow cell phone usage during class time, unless specifically asked. I want your full, undivided attention. Consider this your warning. If I see you on your phone during class time, I will contact your parents. Cellphone usage will affect your participation grade. This class is designed to move students to a higher reading level while incorporating strategies that will help in every class and on standardized tests to prepare them for the future.
