SOME STATS OF ZAMBIA • Population: Over 16 million • Surface area: 752, 000 Square kilometers about 3 times the size of the United Kingdom • Climate –Tropical no extremes • British colony until 1964 • Copper mining-drives economy
ZAMBIAN CONTEXT • Less than 40% of women complete secondary school • For every 1, 000 births, 83 are from adolescent girls ages 15 -19 • 30% of women have no job opportunities • Prevalence of HIV is over 13% in my town • Over 18% of people live in extreme poverty
Genesis • Graduated from Uni in 1990, BSC Math, worked an international non-profit-Oxfam • Formed PLAEP in 2005 • Inspired to start and run with a local vision
