You are going to be learning music theory this term (72 b have already started) so this PPT will introduce you to reading music and notes on the keyboard. This is 2 weeks worth, so do as much as you can in week 1, then finish in week 2. Next week I will do a video to go through some of the tasks for week 2 There are extensions for those of you who already read. Facts There are only 7 letters in the music alphabet ABCDEFG Note pitch can be raised with a # (sharp) symbol Note pitch can be lowered with a b (flat) symbol
Starter - Treble Clef Task: 1. Use a ruler to draw out the 5 lines of the staff on a sheet of A 4 paper. 1. Draw a treble clef at the start of the staff - make sure it matches the one shown. 1. Label the lines correctly - think of an mnemonic to help (see next slide for help on the notes) 1. Label the spaces correctly

Listening/Visual Task You will see/hear a 4 -8 note keyboard pattern starting on a C. Does the visual match the notation? Circle any incorrect notes. Tip - work out what the notes are before watching the keyboard clip. 1 2 3 4
MAIN TASK Create a poster or booklet to teach a younger student how to identify notes on the keyboard. Create a set of instructions to show where specific notes are. Tip - Not all keyboards begin on C! C DE F GAB
