Yinghua Academy Chinese Music Ensemble Dizi Erhu Hulusi Cello Violin Yangqin Ruan Guzheng Viola Percussion Bass Yinghua is excited to announce the opportunity to play in a Chinese music ensemble. Thanks to a Minnesota State Arts Board Folk and Traditional Arts grant, the fee is only $50 total for all rehearsals and performances. While Chinese instruments are especially needed, any instrument is invited to play in the ensemble. Musicians need to be able to read music, count and play in tune. Members are expected to practice daily for at least 15 -30 minutes and attend all rehearsals. The group will be directed by Gao Hong, award winning Pipa player and Music Director of the acclaimed Chinese Music Ensemble at Carelton College. GAO HONG (Chinese pipa player and composer) teaches Chinese instruments and directs the Carleton Chinese Music Ensemble and Global Music Ensemble. She began her career as a professional musician at age 12. A graduate of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, she studied with pipa master Lin Shicheng. Gao Hong has received numerous awards and honors including the Bush Artist Fellowship and 4 Mc. Knight Artist Fellowships. Her performances have been acclaimed throughout Europe, Australia, South America, Asia, and the United States. She is also Guest Professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, China Conservatory of Music, among others. Gao Hong’s personal website can be found at: www. chinesepipa. com.
