Yearbook theme project and notes Theme The phrase
Yearbook theme (project and notes) Theme – The phrase (and graphic logo) that connect a yearbook to the school and current year
Theme essentials • Phrase – Positive, fits school and year, and something people recognize (could be from music, film, TV, current slang, etc. ) • Graphics – Uses color (4 -color), rule lines, photos, screens, fonts…anything to go with the phrase and overall look
1. Location theme • Theme based on where a school is located • Ex: Center Standard Time (Center High School)
2. Anniversary Theme • Theme centered on number of years school (or book) has been in existence • EX: Living the Legacy
3. Spirit theme • Theme which uses school colors or mascot (ex: Code Red – school color)
4. Event theme • Theme which focuses on one particular event (must be important!) • Ex: Simple Addition (school building an addition)
5. Catch Phrase Theme • The most common, this theme takes a popular phrase and ties it to the book and school (means none of the other categories are working for you) • Ex: In Know Time
Theme-related pages • Endsheet – Found between cover and title page, usually contains table of contents • Title Page – First actual page, has a lot of school information (volume, address, etc. ) • Opening – Spread which explains theme with copy, photo(s)
Theme-related pages, cont. • Divider – Spread which begins each section (Campus Life, Student Life, Sports, People, Community) • Spinoff – Phrase which relates divider to main theme Ex: Revolution/Innovation Starting from Scratch/First Cut
