YEAR 9 WORK Week beginning 15 th June In this document you will find all the tasks your subject teachers have asked you to complete this week. On the next slide is a timetable template – you may wish to organise your week and plan out when you will do each subject. REMEMBER you can be flexible with this and put in breaks when you need them. On the slides after this you will see a list of the tasks you need to complete. There also lots of extra resources/booklets/tasks on the school website which will help you with your work. Year 9 Term 6: English Learn the following spellings by making sure you know what they mean, writing them out repeatedly, testing yourself or getting someone else to test you, and putting them in to your own sentences: possess, possible, practical, prefer, prejudice, presence, privilege, probably, professional, promise, proof, psychology, quantity, quarter, quiet, quite, realize, receive, recognize Read a news article of your choice from the BBC or The Guardian website, or from a newspaper. Identify five words that you don’t know the meaning of. For each word: 1) Find the word in a dictionary or Google its meaning 2) Use a thesaurus or Google to find a synonym (a word with similar meaning) 3) Write a sentence using each word correctly. Create a mind map of everything you remember about Tybalt from ‘Romeo and Juliet’ – try to mention: Act One Scene One, antagonist, family honour, Romeo, Capulet party, Prince of Cats, Mercutio. Include at least five key quotations said by or about Tybalt. If you struggle with this, use your booklet that you took home, the website ‘Shmoop’ or Mr Bruff’s You. Tube page. At the start of Year 10, we will be reading and studying the play ‘An Inspector Calls’; this task will help you prepare for that. Research the sinking of the Titanic, 1912. Present your findings in any way you like, but make sure you at least cover the answers to the questions below: Ø What was the Titanic? Ø What was it like inside? What made it special? Ø What it was like for different classes (e. g. how was the experience different for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd class passengers)? Ø What was the catastrophe? Ø What was the rescue like? Year 9 Term 6: Business Studies Please find the digital version of the BTEC Enterprise Class book on the website and on teams. If you email aclarida@staldhelms-academy. co. uk or send a message on teams I will give your username and password. I cannot express how important this is for you as you WILL sit an exam on this module when we are back in school post September. This exam will count towards your final grade. There are extra pages for you to do the extension tasks which are the activities. YOU WILL GET EXTRA grades for these. Read through the pages and answer the questions and then "Hand it in!!!" These marks will count towards your grades.

Tasks 4. 1 & 4. 2: How do these everyday routines impact on a child's holistic development Make notes and complete tasks on the Power. Point. This will be set through TEAMS assignments. Quiz on the effects of these daily routines. Watch secret life of 4, 5, 6 year old and identify some of the routines that are shown. If you have any questions then please email Mrs Hanwell on rhanwell@staldhelms-academy. co. uk Year 9 Term 6: DT Week 3 & 4 You are going to design a lifestyle brand create a logo and design one or a range of products that promote your brand Marketing and Advertising • This project is about creating a brand supporting marketing and advertising material. • Please create it on either CAD or sketched out on paper. Any paper you have will be fine. Year 9 Term 6: Drama 1. Read ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by William Shakespeare. The script can be found here http: //shakespeare. mit. edu/midsummer/full. html There also filmed versions available on Youtube. If you prefer to watch it, or want to access both, then type A Midsummer Night’s Dream into youtube and lots should come up. There also Plot summaries on there which are useful! 2. Create a mind map of the key characters. Who are they? What are they like? What is their purpose in the play? Write as much detail as you can. 3. Create a storyboard of the plot. Focus on 6 -8 key moments in the story. Again, provide as much detail as you can. 4. Underneath your storyboard, explain why you think these are the most important moments. 5. Imagine that you are the new Resident Director for the Royal Shakespeare Company and you have been asked to direct the latest production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. How would you stage and direct it? Consider whether you would keep it traditional, make it more modern, what sort of staging you would use and why, what set and props would you have, etc. Remember to justify every decision that you make. Year 9 Term 6: Engineering Design your own Robot. Over the next term you will be designing a Robot. The design and its individual functions will be up to you, but you must follow these specification points: • It must have a name • It must have a use which helps people I will be registering you all on a 3 D CAD package called On. Shape. If you have computer access you will be to use this to model some ideas or even create the final outcome. If you don’t have computer access you will be able to draw your ideas and create a model for the final outcome. For the next steps in this module we are going to be learning 3 d CAD. You have been registered for On. Shape which is the latest version of Pro. Desktop which we had been using in school. All you need to do is activate your account which is on your school e-mail.
