YEAR 9 WORK Week beginning 1 st June In this document you will find all the tasks your subject teachers have asked you to complete this week. On the next slide is a timetable template – you may wish to organise your week and plan out when you will do each subject. REMEMBER you can be flexible with this and put in breaks when you need them. On the slides after this you will see a list of the tasks you need to complete. There also lots of extra resources/booklets/tasks on the school website which will help you with your work. Year 9 Term 6: English Learn the following spellings by making sure you know what they mean, writing them out repeatedly, testing yourself or getting someone else to test you, and putting them in to your own sentences: license, loneliness, losing, lying, laying, marriage, mathematics, medicine, miniature, minute, mysterious, naturally, necessary, neighbour, neither, noticeable, occasion, occurred, official, often Read a news article of your choice from the BBC or The Guardian website, or from a newspaper. Identify five words that you don’t know the meaning of. For each word: 1) Find the word in a dictionary or Google its meaning 2) Use a thesaurus or Google to find a synonym (a word with similar meaning) 3) Write a sentence using each word correctly. Create a mind map of everything you remember about Romeo from ‘Romeo and Juliet’ – try to mention: Rosaline, Capulet party, balcony scene, Friar Laurence, Benvolio, Mercutio. Include at least five key quotations said by or about Romeo. If you struggle with this, use your booklet that you took home, the website ‘Shmoop’ or Mr Bruff’s You. Tube page. At the start of Year 10, we will be reading and studying the play ‘An Inspector Calls’; this task will help you prepare for that. Research J. B. Priestley and create a fact-file on him (you can present this how you like). Include: His upbringing, his experience of war, his BBC radio broadcasts (‘Postscripts’) – what he spoke about and why his show was cancelled, his political views, images of Priestley. Year 9 Term 6: Business Studies Please find a link to the digital version of the BTEC Enterprise Class book. If you email aclarida@staldhelms-academy. co. uk or send Mr Clarida a message on teams he will give your username and password. Worksheets can be found on teams and on the website. Mr Clarida cannot express how import this is for you as you WILL sit an exam on this module when we are back in school post September. This exam will count towards your final grade. Each week Mr Clarida will arrange a teams or zoom meeting where you can discuss the pages you will cover and the work you will do. A letter or email will go home for this as we need parental consent, it will also confirm the time of the meeting which will last no longer than 30 mins. There will also be another member of staff attending. Mr Clarida will set it on a Wednesday, which will give you time to write any questions you may have on the pages you need to cover. It is essential you write down any questions and have a note pad to write the answers Week 1 are pages - 114 to 125 Week 2 are pages - 126 – 135 The work must be completed each week, if it is not handed in, Mr Clarida will be calling home or discussing it in the meeting to check what your barriers to learning were and what can be done to help you Recommendation: Read ALL of the pages in-depth first, and then going back to the work sheet re-reading and thinking about how you answer them. There are extra pages for you to do the extension tasks which are the activities. YOU WILL GET EXTRA grades for these. Read through the pages and answer the questions and then "Hand it in!!!" - These marks will count towards your grades.

Produce notes and answer quiz at the end of the Power. Point. Produce a table of the main routines a child may go need. Compare to your own routines that you may have followed when under 5 years old. Year 9 Term 6: Drama As part of devising, you will need to be able to respond to a range of stimuli. Use the image (Parsifal 1 by Anselm Kiefer) to create a concept for a devised piece. It does not have to be explicitly linked to the picture, the picture is just a starting pint. You must incorporate either the techniques of a theatre practitioner or the characteristics of a specific genre of theatre. You must compile a portfolio of supporting evidence. This portfolio must show details of how the piece has been created and developed to communicate meaning to an audience. You must focus on three significant stages in the development of your piece of theatre to demonstrate: 1. How ideas have been researched, created and developed in response to the chosen stimulus 2. How ideas from the chosen practitioner/genre have been incorporated in the piece to communicate meaning 3. How the ideas have been developed, amended and refined during the development of the devised piece. For each stage, you must provide illustrative material (as listed below) and a commentary, which may include annotations on the illustrative material. The commentary for each stage should be approximately 250 words and total 750 to 900 words for the complete portfolio. Illustrative material may include any of the following: • sketches • photographs • ground plans • diagrams • storyboards • mood boards For some of these sections, you may be a little limited due to not being physically in school. However, the idea of this task is to get used to creating work and creating portfolios to justify and explain your devised work. You have 2 weeks to complete this. Over the next term you will be designing a Robot. The design and its individual functions will be up to you, but you must follow these specification points: • It must have a name • It must have a use which helps people I will be registering you all on a 3 D CAD package called On. Shape. If you have computer access you will be to use this to model some ideas or even create the final outcome. If you don’t have computer access you will be able to draw your ideas and create a model for the final outcome. Week 1 1. Complete the research sheet on Terry Collier who creates Robot Sculptures. 2.
