Task 1 – Initial Ideas Lightly draw this simple lamp 4 times on one

Task 1 – Initial Ideas Lightly draw this simple lamp 4 times on one piece of paper. For each design change one part (shade, stem, base, etc) so it looks different from the original. Once you have made your changes, darken all the lines and add colour/tone. Example The designer has created a range of designs based on a square or cylindrical shade. All ideas are simple but different.

Task 2 – Design development/Final idea Now you have a range of designs, you

Task 2 – Design development/Final idea Now you have a range of designs, you can develop your final idea. This idea usually comprises of elements of each design that are popular. Create one final drawing. Make sure everything you do is neat and clean – no rubbed out lines. This can be achieved by drawing lightly in pencil making rubbing out easier. Use colour and tone to create the illusion of 3 D.

Task 3 – Prototype (optional) Designers create models out of cheap materials before making

Task 3 – Prototype (optional) Designers create models out of cheap materials before making their final piece. They do this to try and identify any possible issues with the design, check the form of the object looks right and to physically feel if the product is right. Using card and tape, create a 3 D model of your designs. Think about how your model would be assembled and how the card will be attached to make a clean and crisp finish. Cut slots in your work to allow 2 or more pieces to fit together.
