Year 8 Art and Design Lesson 5 Summer Term 2 Illustration Content: This term the Art links and follows on from the work completed this year based around the proportions of the face. Students have learnt how to use proportion guidance to accurately draw the face features in the correct place. The skills of applying these proportion guidelines were then transferred into a Cultural Mask project where students learnt the process of designing masks for different purposes and from different cultures. The design process will be combined with knowledge of the proportions of the face in this project. In lesson 5 students will recall previous knowledge of using the proportion guidelines to draw a face and eyes. Learning Objective: To design a character wearing a Covid-19 face mask. Tasks: Watch the video links or draw features from resource sheet to structure the face. Use prior knowledge and draw the eyes using the guidelines provided. Add tonal shading to the iris, pupil, draw small curved lines for the eyelashes and small short lines to show the eyebrows. Remember that you will only see the eyes in your artwork so draw them with accuracy and make them stand out Video links: https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=cb. GYtr 4 K 7 t. Q: How can I create my own unique street art character and add a mask design? Create your superhero character. What superhero are you going to create? Why? Decide upon the message you want to send to the world. What message will your superhero be sending? Consider how you will present your artwork, what paper could you use? Newspaper, lined paper, an envelope… Create a sketch of your design ideas first on a piece of paper before doing your artwork. Then decide if it works and shows your intended message. Write a plan for your Artwork and what steps to success do you need to take? __1. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ _2. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ 3. _______________________________________________________________________________________________4. ________________________________________________5. _ ________________________________________________s
A 03: Recording your ideas Use the worksheets to help you. Use a light pencil line and draw the face proportion lines and add the eyes. Don’t add the nose or lips. Draw the outline of the mask where the nose and lips would have been.
Questions for parents to support learning: • Parents to check that students are completing work weekly. • Parents can ensure students are looking closely at the resources provided to help generate their ideas. • Parents can ask students why they are selecting the shapes used. What proportion lines do you need to draw? How will you know if the eyes are in the correct place (eyeline is half way down the face oval)? Can you think of the names of the parts of the eye (iris, pupil, eye lid, eye ball, tear duct) (coloured part is the iris, black dot is the pupil)? Where would the darkest tone be on your eye? (pupil, eye lashes and eyebrows) Why? Where would you need to use mid tones on the eye? (iris) • Encourage students to consider if the eyes stand out enough against the mid tone of the face. • • Ask students what style of line creates the eyelashes (delicate, slightly curved lines) Why? What style of line is used to create the eyebrows? (short, straight lines in a direction around the eye) How are the lines for the hair different to the eye lashes and eyebrows? (longer, flowing lines that can be a mixture of both straight or curved lines. ) • • Parents are to check students are referring to the examples provided for support.
