YEAR 7: Week beginning Monday 1 st June In this document you will find all the tasks your subject teachers have asked you to complete this week. On the next slide is a timetable template – you may wish to organise your week and plan out when you will do each subject. REMEMBER you can be flexible with this and put in breaks when you need them. On the slides after this you will see a list of the tasks you need to complete. There also lots of extra resources/booklets/tasks on the school website which will help you with your work. Subject Tasks to complete this week… English This term, we are going to read ‘Coraline’ by Neil Gaiman. There is a copy on the website on the Year 7 Home Learning page under ‘English’, you can access a copy on Teams, or you can email Miss Egan kegan@staldhelms-academy. co. uk and she can email you a copy. Learn the following spellings by making sure you know what they mean, writing them out repeatedly, testing yourself or getting someone else to test you, and putting them in to your own sentences: license, loneliness, losing, lying, laying, marriage, mathematics, medicine, miniature, minute, mysterious, naturally, necessary, neighbour, neither, noticeable, occasion, occurred, official, often 3. Read a news article of your choice from the BBC or The Guardian website, or from a newspaper. Identify five words that you don’t know the meaning of. For each word: 1) Find the word in a dictionary or Google its meaning 2) Use a thesaurus or Google to find a synonym (a word with similar meaning) 3) Write a sentence using each word correctly. 4. Look at the various book and DVD covers below, and think about the following: • What do these covers tell you about the main characters or themes? • Where can you see elements of fantasy in the covers? • Which cover is best for children? Why? • Which cover is scariest? Why? • Which cover do you like most? Why? • Can you make any predictions about the plot based on these covers? 5. Read Chapters 1&2 of ‘Coraline’. Challenge/Extension: In Chapter 2, Miss Spink and Miss Forcible read tea leaves. What does this mean and why do they do it? Where did the idea originate? Then complete the worksheet attached with activities to practice the topic. You can either complete it directly on the Word document or print it and complete it by hand. Tasks C (project): Read the information about dates and questions words on the support document. Then create a Spanish 2020 calendar, including months and days of the week in Spanish. Also you can add some relevant information onto your calendar (For example if your birthday was the 6 th of May you can add on that date “Mi cumpleaños”). You can take a picture of your work and upload it on Teams, email it to your teacher, or keep it at home until school reopens.
