Year 7 | English Homework Tasks | Term: Spring 1 | Topic: Narrative and Descriptive Writing Instructions: Each week you will complete one piece of homework. This will be either one of the activities below, or revision from your Knowledge Organiser for a test in class. Your teacher will let you know what homework activity you are doing and when this should be handed in. 1. Describe your favourite journey. This could be your walk to school, a walk that you take your dog on, or another journey that you can describe in detail. Think about the 5 senses when describing. 2. Write a story that begins with the sentence: “Although everything seemed normal that day, things were about to change forever…” Make sure you include a 5 part plan before you write your answer. Remember to use: • • Paragraphs of different lengths. Three different language methods from your knowledge organiser Three different types of punctuation from your knowledge organiser. A range of sentence lengths (simple, compound, complex and minor) A range sentence starters (adjective, verb, adverb and connectives) Ambitious vocabulary from your knowledge organiser. • Include three ambitious words from your Knowledge Organiser. • Start your sentences in different ways using the words from your Knowledge Organiser (adjective, verb, adverb and connectives) • Remember to include the Word of the Week • • Due Date: Don’t forget to check your spellings and word choice by using your Gem when completing your homework. Three different types of punctuation from your knowledge organiser. Simple, compound and complex sentences. A range sentence starters from your knowledge organiser. For Example: TELLING: The boy cut his knee. SHOWING: A crimson line of blood trickled down the boys wounded leg. 1. Elsa ran to school. 2. There was lots of rain. 3. The teacher was not happy. Write a detailed description of the landscape in the image above. • Focus on using the five senses to paint a picture in the reader’s mind. • Remember to use drop, shift, zoom in and zoom out to create interesting • snapshots of detail. Write a five part plan before you start. Use your Knowledge Organiser for language methods, punctuation, sentence starters, sentence types and vocabulary.
