YEAR 5 GEOGRAPHY Over the past two days we have spent time looking into the developments of Bournville and how Cadbury itself moved from being a small shop on Bull Street, to a huge factory and village on the outskirts of Birmingham. What were the main differences though?

YEAR 5 GEOGRAPHY The great thing about Bournville was that it changed living conditions

YEAR 5 GEOGRAPHY The great thing about Bournville was that it changed living conditions for factory workers for ever. They were no longer living in poor conditions, in small houses with no open space. Instead Cadbury as an employer were trying to look after their employees and make sure that they were happy at home as well as in work. It was because of these changes that so many changes took place in other areas of the country and that conditions for workers around the UK improved.

YEAR 5 GEOGRAPHY Imagine you were the Cadbury sons though…You were about to create a new factory in a huge space. What would you want to include in your grand design? It could be a swimming pool area, open spaces to play sports, maybe even a medical area in case people got sick.

YEAR 5 GEOGRAPHY Your task is to design what you think Bournville should have looked like when it was built. What should it have contained, but remember it needs to be relevant for that time in history. Use one page in your book in a landscape format to create your aerial view map similar to the one below. Make sure you add a key as well for each different section so it is easier to locate places on your map. On the next slide will be examples of things to include.
