This week we will be continuing with using Little Freak for our English stimulus. This week you will: - Understand symbolism Explore emotive language Understand empathy Use drama to understand a characters thoughts and feelings
Lesson 1 Monday 22 nd June 2020 LO: I am learning to recognise symbolism as aform of figurative language.
What does the word below mean? If you are not sure then search for the definition on the internet. Can you find a synonym? SYMBOLISM
Examples of symbolism The dove is a symbol of peace. A red rose, or the color red, stands for love or romance. A ladder may stand as a symbol for a connection between heaven and earth.
How can colours link to symbolism? What could yellow represent? A new day? Birth? Happiness? Can you think of any other types of symbolism we may experience everyday?
Watch Little Freak https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=INHVx. Ar. M 48&t=1 s
How is symbolism used in the clip? Think about these points and what they could represent.
Task - finish off this table with your own interpretation. There is no wrong answer. Symbolism The weather Setting inside caravan compared to outside The chains and collar on the table Your interpretation This could symbolise the sadness that Little Freak experience. Also, the weather is dark, gloomy and miserable, this could reflect how people felt working there. What else could you add?
Why might a writer choose to use symbolism as a form of figurative language? What effect does it have? How does it encourage the reader to look for a deeper meaning? Can you find an object at home/in class that could represent how you feel or how your day has been?
Lesson 2 Tuesday 23 rd June 2020 LO: I am learning to identify how writers use emotive language to portray the thoughts and feelings of a character.
Little Freak Today we will be focussing on the thoughts and feelings of Little Freak. What can you infer about the boy? What do you think he could be thinking and feeling during the clip? What would be making him feel and think that way?
Watch Little Freak https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=INHVx. Ar. M 48&t=1 s How does Little Freak feel/what could he be thinking? What is the relationship like between Little Freak and his dad?
