YEAR 4 HOME LEARNING CHALLENGES WEEK 5

CHALLENGE ONE- BUILD A BOAT • Using John Laird as your inspiration: create your own ship/ boat! • Design your boat- what will it look like? What will it be made from? Draw it and label the different parts. • Use recycled materials from home to build your boat! • Finally test your boat, does it float?

CHALLENGE TWO- CREATE A CRUISE ITINERARY • Using your research of the different ports around the world- create an itinerary (a list of places to visit) for a world cruise! • Which places would you visit and why? What is there to see and do there?

CHALLENGE THREE- BE INVENTIVE! • John Laird was an innovator and revolutionised the way ships were built using iron in the construction process. • Can you come up with your own invention? What would you use it for? What could it be made out of? • Create it! Can you build a prototype of your invention?

CHALLENGE FOUR- BE KIND! • John Laird was also a benefactor, which meant that he carried out lots of charitable deeds and acts of kindness. • How can you show kindness at home? • What could you do to help out around the house? • Some ideas: - Help to tidy up - Clean the dishes - Entertain people with your own show
