• Reading/Spelling – Every child is heard at least once a week – Daily reading and spelling practise. – In addition we have 1 focussed comprehension session and 2 No-Nonsense spelling sessions. • Home Readers – Our aim is to sustain the children’s interest in reading – It is still important that children read everyday – Please return the Reading Record everyday and ensure the reading book is in their book bag so they can change it or continue reading it at school – Short comments appreciated by you or your child – Home school contact – please give us a note or speak to us. – We record how often home readers are changed and encourage independence in choosing a variety of books – Reading bookmarks
• Library – Once a week on a Thursday – Enjoy and discuss books at home – In addition to home reader
• Learning at Home – – Every other Friday (key skills) Half termly – topic challenge Children can bring in a ring binder with plastic wallets to file their work Learning at Home sheet will be uploaded onto the Learning Platform plus any useful websites or resources – Work will be displayed in the classroom and children given opportunity to share their work – Spellings on it are tested weekly.
• PE – – – PE bag to be left at school Thursday pm and Friday pm No earrings or other jewellery (small purse) Long hair tied back, no hard head bands (spare hair bands) Shorts and T-shirt for indoor PE (e. g. Dance and Gymnastics) Spare socks, jumper, jogging bottoms and trainers for outdoor activities (e. g. Games and Athletics) – Swimming will start in the Summer Term • No beach style shorts or bikinis
• Morning – Whistle blown at 8: 50 am – Children met by Class Teacher – Any messages can be put in the children’s communication book/ speak directly to an adult – Playground door is closed at 9: 00 am, if arrive after this time sign in at the school office • Break – We encourage children to bring in a healthy snack for morning break time – In a separate named container to their lunchbox – Named ‘sports-type’ water bottles, water not juice please – Juice cartons in lunch box only
• Home Time – Children attending after school clubs or Beehive will be sent to these (lists provided) – Class teacher will lead children out onto playground to meet parents / carers – Going home with a friend? Please inform class teacher with a brief letter or note
Other Points • Please name ALL clothes – – PE kit Uniform Coats Jumpers • Money: • School dinner money or any other monies can be sent in via Parent Pay.
Other Points • School Bags – Book bag ~ kept in classroom box (contents emptied every morning) – PE Bag ~ draw string type hung on pegs in corridor • Notebook ~ Mindfulness jottings/doodles • Helpers – If you are brave enough to help on a regular basis or as and when you can just let us know • Listening to readers • Resources preparation • Filing • Displays • Any other special talents? !
Other Points • - Acceptable User Policy Children should have completed these already. Rules for safety and fairness to others online. Keeping information for themselves. Asking permission to send messages/downloading etc. • - Home School Agreement Reminder to support children with homework, opportunities and learning. Support children with school rules and values. Please make sure they are equipped for school!
Christmas Year 3 s will be performing a Christmas show! Nearer the time we will contact you about costumes etc.
Maths • Calculation policy – also on the school’s website. • There will be an information evening later in the Autumn Term where we will demonstrate our maths written methods – please come along!
