Session 1
LG: Learn new vocabulary
What do these words mean? swept (verb) The irregular past tense verb of ‘sweep’. Swept means in this context to move or carry something along with a great force. tentacles (noun) a long flexible part of a body that stick out around the head or mouth of an animal. barnacles (noun) a salt water creature that attaches itself inside a shell onto an animal, rock or ship in the ocean. vast (adjective) a really big area, size or amount. spout (noun) a sudden strong stream of water or liquid. In a whale the spout comes from the blow hole on the animals head. The water travels upwards in a spout when the whale blows air out of their blowhole. nipped (verb) like pinched or a little, sharp bite. flippers (noun) a flat limb (like an arm or a leg on a human) on an animal. They use their flippers for pushing themselves along in the water. choke (verb) when someone or something living cannot breath because their windpipe is blocked by something.

Challenge You could write the words twice onto cards and play a memory game by turning them all over or playing snap with someone else in your house. You could write the words down and put them around your room and do a word hunt with them. Leave them up so you can practice them everyday.
