Year 2 English Home Learning Week beginning 6 th July 2020
Monday 6 th July- SPAG revision Today we will be reviewing the different SPAG activities we have done over the last few weeks. Complete the SPAG revision mats – there are 6 questions on each mat that will practise a different skill.
Tuesday 7 th July- (Imperative) Bossy Verbs Today we will be looking at imperative verbs or bossy verbs as they are sometimes used. It is important to know what these types of verbs are to understand a sentence type but also because we will be using them this week to write our instructions for ‘how to build and make a racing car’
Imperative (Bossy) Verbs
What is a verb? • A doing word. • It describes an action. • E. g. I baked a cake.
What is an imperative verb? • It is a bossy verb! It makes a sentence bossy! Use Miss Bossy to help you remember! • It gives you an order or command. • They are direct and sharp. • E. g. Line up for assembly. • Turn left at the traffic lights. • Mix the flour and eggs together.
When do we use them? • • • We often use them in instructional writing. What types instruction can you think of? Recipes. DIY manuals. Game instructions. Car directions.
For example! • • Hammer the nail into the wood. Turn right at the zebra crossing. First, pour the milk into the bowl. Bounce across the yard.
Can you find the bossy verb? • • First, list the ingredients for the recipe. Jump on the spot. Next, cut along the dotted line. Stick the picture in the middle of the card. What do you notice? Where do bossy verbs go in the sentence?
Tuesday 7 th July- (Imperative) Bossy Verbs Activity: Please complete the bossy verb activity sheet and see if you can help Little Miss Bossy to fix the sentences using imperative verbs correctly
Wednesday 8 th July LI: To write instructions Today we are going to be using our understanding of imperative verbs to help us write instructions explaining how to make a racing car. You have all created and designed your own racing car but what instructions and information would you give to someone who also wanted to make one? 1. Think about what equipment they need to have to make it 2. Think about the order you need to follow and do things in for the car to be the correct shape etc. 3. What bossy verbs are you going to use to give people the instruction?
Wednesday 8 th July LI: To write instructions Activity: Equipment: Instructions When writing or creating instructions on how you make something your equipment should be written as a list. When writing your instructions and the step by step process you must follow here a few things to remember: Using bullet points to show each item, can you write down all the things you used or needed to make your racing car 1. For each new instruction use a new line and a number. 2. Use a bossy verb at the start of each sentence to give the instruction 3. Make sure you are writing in the correct order
Thursday 9 th July LI: To write instructions Today we are going to be using our draft notes from yesterday to write up our equipment list and instructions on how to build a racing car. **Can you add ruler and jigsaw to your equipment list as I used this to cut the dowel rods to the correct length. ** Where would this new instruction need to go in your method?
Thursday 9 th July LI: To write instructions Edit Can you think of some adverbs to put in your instructions about HOW you should do something? Carefully, slowly, quickly, gently, Remember to add your time conjunctions – first, next, then, after that, finally Activity: Can you write up your instructions with any edits onto your instruction page. Remember to draw your car too to show the finished product
