Topic – Pioneers Lesson 2 – How did train travel change people’s lives?
How did railways change peoples’ lives? People didn’t have time to travel far for holidays before railways because horse and carriages were slow and expensive. Trains let people travel to the seaside or big cities for the first time. Factory workers welcomed the chance to escape into the fresh air and sunshine. Some people were scared about travelling on the train and women wouldn’t travel on it till Queen Victoria did. Watch this clip about what it was like at the seaside. www. youtube. com/watch? v=z. Here are some posters encouraging people to travel by train to the seaside. What do you notice about all these posters?
Activity: Please make your own poster in the style of the Victorian posters. Remember to include: - why it is good to travel by train - why people would want to go to the seaside
