New GCSE Grades explained • The new mid-grade (5) will be 50 per cent more demanding than the current grade C and will be treated as the new grade C. • Ofqual explains: “Grade 5 will be positioned in the top third of the marks for a current grade C and bottom third of the marks for a current grade B. This will mean it will be of greater demand than the present grade C.

After - school revision is on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon (3. 05 -4. 05 pm). Please note that Thursdays are for any students who don’t attend Science revision. Homework is set every week and is recorded on SMH; please support us by logging in using your parent PIN to keep track of what work your son/daughter is expected to do. What is stress? • Stress is one of the body’s natural responses to something

What is stress? • Stress is one of the body’s natural responses to something that is threatening or frightening. • It is something that we all experience from time to time. • Stress is not necessarily harmful: mild forms can motivate and energise. • However, if your child’s stress level is too high then it can cause difficulties, including hindering their ability to prepare for and perform during their exams.

Strategies/Tick list • Balanced diet – stock the fridge and cupboard with healthy options like protein bars instead of chocolate. - Encourage them to grab one of these for breakfast on the way to school/at break instead of using up their break to queue for food • Remove electronic devices at night and ensure a reasonable bed time (11 at the latest) so they have energy for the school day and beyond. • Regular exercise is key – the best way to settle nerves is to go for a fast paced walk or a run. Stress/Anxiety is adrenaline with nowhere to go so exercise is an obvious outlet. • Calm space and controlled breathing – mindfulness • Be organised by having a study plan on the wall – little and often is better than trying to cram • Have fun! Go out and do something at the weekend.
