Year 11 – online learning Week beginning – 20/07/20 We are sorry we can’t be with you right now, but want to support your learning whilst you are in hospital. We understand that your may be feeling a little lost at the moment – having worked so hard for your GCSEs and circumstances mean that you longer have to sit them. However, you may want to keep busy, you may be thinking ahead to your next steps after Year 11 and want to keep your skills up to date. You may like to do some transition work to prepare you for the next steps or you may like to revisit your next steps by looking again at options available to you. We would like to make a few suggestions – so read on.
Futures Why not log onto Startprofile and reassess where your interests might take you? You may not have had the opportunity to explore your options since Year 8 or 9 – this might be a good time to revisit jobs and careers and see whether the experiences you have had in Year 10 and 11 may have added to your other ideas. How to create an account: Startprofile - Student Registration Process URL : startprofile. com Step 1. Click the “Registration” Tab Fill in all your details. Tip : You can use a school email address as your user name and please choose a password that you will remember Click “Get Started!” Step 2. Log Into Start Step 3. Select “I am Studying in Education Step 4. Select your School. Start typing The name of the school into the top field and the school should appear: Hospital and Home PRU Select year group and finally enter the code Student Code: 56079 Click Submit You are now signed up and ready to use Start.
University Are you thinking of applying to university after your Post 16 studies? The course options open to you may be dependent on subjects that you choose to study now. Why not have a look? Log onto the UCAS website and explore. You can search courses and find out entry requirements and institutions that offer that course. If you know where you would like to study, you can search the university itself and see what courses are on offer. It is useful to find out what subjects are needed for specific courses and what grades may be required. Spend sometime exploring subjects you have never considered before – you may be surprised ….
Apprenticeships Thinking of doing an apprenticeship? Why not do some research? You can search for and apply for apprenticeships online. Why not log onto https: //www. apprenticeships. gov. uk/ and explore your options.
Transition to Post 16 studies Your own school, sixth form or college may well be supporting you with transition activities to help prepare you for your new courses. Writing a CV or Personal Statement You may be thinking about applying for an apprenticeship or a part time job, that you can do alongside your Post 16 studies – why not start to draft a CV (Curriculum Vitae). Learn a new skill Why not enhance your employability by learning a new skill. There a range of online courses that are free and available to all, through the national careers service. https: //nationalcareers. service. gov. uk/find-a-course/the-skills-toolkit The courses are graded according to difficulty and you can choose the level and topic that best suits your ability and interests. You will be able to bring your new learning to your post 16 studies and will be able to talk about your new learning on your CV, personal statement or at a job interview. The courses available range from everyday maths and presenting your work with impact, through to Python coding, digital marketing and data analysis.
