Externally Set Task- Exam Project Due to the Covid 19 pandemic this part of the exhibition will consist almost entirely of work produced in students sketchbooks. Students chose one of the seven themes on the question paper on which to base their responses. Then developed their project using the work of the Artists, Craft-persons, Designers and Photographers listed in the question to help them create and inspire ideas for their final piece. Two weeks before the students final exam unfortunately, school closed. Therefore their projects remain unfinished…… Sketchbooks are by their very nature experimental, we have chosen the best examples of students work that demonstrate the story of their Ideas creation.

Teacher’s statement: 2020 has been an unprecedented year, the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic has had an impact upon us all and changed the face of society as we know it. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the GCSE Art students who have worked tirelessly to create the visually stunning body of work that you have seen in this digital exhibition. The creation of artwork comes from the soul, it is not an easy task. The students have spent many hours thinking, experimenting, dreaming, creating and agonizing over the choices they have made, which has led them to this point in their work. We are immensely proud of all they have achieved. I am sure that you will agree that it has been such a shame that we have been unable to celebrate their achievements together by way of an actual, physical exhibition this year, you can not smell the paint, feel the textures, turn the pages and discover their expertise for yourselves. However, regardless of all the things we have missed about our usual lives whilst we have been living in isolation from each other, there is one thing that this time has accentuated even more and that is the value of making Art for human beings. Art allows us to communicate with images and express how we feel, it touches us at the very depths of our own humanity in a way that can’t be described through words alone. So no matter that in some respects a digital version does not do the work justice and can not replace the experience of seeing your work on display for public viewing, it is still a celebration! We wish you all the very best for your future lives and hope that you will always find a place in your heart, to create art. Take care, Mrs. Woodward and Miss Fine
