YEAR 11 ART These are some of the skills and facts you need to know and use within this project. Key words Media/Medium The materials and tools used by an artist to create a piece of art. Technique The way in which an artist uses tools and materials to create a piece of art. Composition Where you place objects on the page Proportion The size relationship between different parts – eg height compared to width. 3 -dimensional Having, or appearing to have, length, width and depth Shading The use of colour, pencil lines, etc. to give an impression of light and shade in a picture Tone a shade of a colour Depth the quality in a work of art or a photograph that makes it appear not to be flat Mark making The different marks made on a surface Observational study A drawing or photograph from something directly in front of you Skull A bone framework enclosing the brain of a vertebrate; the skeleton of a person's or animal's head. Sculpture A three dimensional form Anatomy The branch of science concerned with the bodily structure of humans, animals, and other living organisms, especially as revealed by dissection and the separation of parts. 2 -dimensional A flat image or drawing. Distortion A change in the shape, appearance or sound of something so that it is strange or not clear 5 steps of drawing 1. Position - Where on your page are you going to draw your objects. 2. Size - How big are the objects you are drawing? Are they in proportion to each other? 3. Shape- This is where you look closely as your image and draw the exact lines you can see. Remember don’t press on hard. 4. Tone- Leave the lightest points on your drawing completely pencil free these are your highlights. Look for the darkest shadows and begin shading them in neatly in the same direction blending from dark to light. 5. Texture – Add mark making to represent different details such as fur.
