Important nutrients… • The table shows the main nutrients needed by teenagers for healthy and balanced diet along with some good advice for having a healthy diet. • Research which foods contain these nutrients and plan a burger meal which covers all requirements. It will take quite a lot of planning to get right.
SCHEDULE 1. Research which ingredients contain the required nutrients for a teenager. 2. Use this research to complete the charts which will help you plan a burger meal which meets these requirements 3. Complete the recipe sheets. 4. Photograph you making your meal, include as many steps as possible as this will help you complete an evaluation. 5. Take a photo of your meal - try to be creative in your presentation. 6. Evaluate the meal using the practical criteria (ask someone in your house to do it for you if you’d prefer) and complete the star profile and write a sensory analysis like we would normally do in class.

Research what accompaniments and garnishes you could use to ensure your final recipe would meet the dietary requirements of a teenager - explain the nutritional benefits Standard accompaniment or garnish Example Chips Spray with 1 cal oil and oven bake - this will lower the fat content of the meal. Ready made mayonnaise Use a low fat version to lower the fat content of the meal. Ready made tomato ketchup Use a reduced salt and sugar version to make the meal healthier. Salad Create a mustard dressing for the side salad of lettuce tomato and sweetcorn. This would add flavour and compliment the burger. Sliced raw or roasted salad/vegetables to include iron, vitamins A, B, C, D & E. Cheese for calcium Potato wedges with skins on for more fibre drizzled with rapeseed oil which is a polyunsaturated fat. Cooked in the oven.
