Year 10 FINAL PIECE INSTRUCTIONS

Hello Year 10 Firstly, we hope you are all well and are settling into

Hello Year 10 Firstly, we hope you are all well and are settling into a routine at home during these strange times we have found ourselves in! We know you all have the talent and work ethic to continue to add to your body of coursework for component 1. The following slides will provide you with guidance and a time frame to complete the work for the project ‘Identity’ before we move to our third and final extended project ‘Fragments’. Forms & Structures + Identity + Fragments = 60% of your GCSE. Important dates: Easter – 6 th April – 19 th April You may want to take a break over Easter or you may want to complete some work during this time – this is up to you and your choice to plan your time. Deadline for (10 hour) Final Piece – Friday 1 st May jphillips@hamptoncollege. org. uk jpiper@hamptoncollege. org. uk

WHAT YOU SHOULD BE CURRENTLY WORKING ON … We hope you have been working

WHAT YOU SHOULD BE CURRENTLY WORKING ON … We hope you have been working towards your final piece, using the preparation lists and help sheets to prepare. This should include: 1. Experiments using different media (possibly inspired by your chosen artist, background ideas, consider your strengths and what you will succeed in) 2. Thumbnail sketches of different ideas/options that you could have for your final piece. (different compositions, different images/faces used as a reference, different sizes on what you will be creating your piece on … will it be a square, portrait or landscape, long and thin? etc. These sketches do not have to be perfectly drawn, they can be rough sketches) 3. Choose 2 of those thumbnail sketches and draw those chosen ideas out on the next page. In your annotations, compare them, how do they differ? Which one is more successful and why? What will the colour palette be – apply some swatches around the drawing, do the colours have a meaning? 4. Choose 1 – this is your final piece design. Draw this out for the final time, decide on the layout/any tweaks, finalise the colour palette and materials to be used annotate a step by step on how you will tackle the piece.

PLANNING YOUR TIME Week 1 Easter Week 2 Week 3 30. 03. 20 -03. 04. 20 2 weeks 20. 04. 20 -24. 04. 20 27. 04. 20 -01. 05. 20 You will be creating a 10 -hour final piece. Usually you would be completing this in school over 2 days (with breaks). Due to the situation this cannot take place so this is up to you to manage and plan. We would advise you time how long you take on your final piece because this is good practice for your final exam in Year 11. We would suggest you write out your own timetable and come up with a plan that suits you. You may want to spread out your time over a few days/weeks or you may want to plan 2 consecutive days to complete your final piece. You may choose to work through Easter or not. Use the example below to help you. Things to consider … Plan something that is achievable at home in this current

Things to consider … Plan something that is achievable at home in this current situation. Have you got the materials you want to use? The piece should be a minimum of A 3 (sketchbook size) and remember this will be displayed in your final exhibition. The outline drawing is the most important factor. If you do not have the structure and accuracy you will struggle to realise your intentions. There is a free app called ‘Grid’ which you can download to your phone/tablet that overlays a grid to your chosen photograph. It then provides you the same grid measurements you can draw out on your paper. This is a good option if you do not have access to a printer. You will gain the most marks by showing a clear journey towards your final piece. Your sketchbook should be like a recipe book … your ideas, photographs, experiments, artist and annotations should all lead to your final piece. If your final piece is worlds apart from your sketchbook we cannot award those vital marks. Most importantly have fun and enjoy it. You have put in all the hard work and here is your chance to show off your strengths. We look forward to seeing your work on Friday 1 st May by 3 pm via email, Mr. Piper and Miss Phillips.
