Year 1 Learning Pack GOLD Week beginning 08. 06. 2020 If your child is attending school they will be completing day 1 and day 2 with their teacher on the two days they are in. We are asking that on the other three days when your child is working at home they complete day 3, 4 and 5. If your child is completing the learning pack at home all week, please complete the pack as normal from day 1 to 5. Day 1 Physical Challenge! Simon Says The teacher is Simon. Maybe swap over so a child gets a turn, if time. Simon either begins a command with “Simon Says” or not. To stay in the game, kids only must follow the commands that begin with “Simon Says”. If you want to make the game difficult for older kids, simply issue commands faster and faster, and make the needed actions more and more difficult to complete.
Day 1: Literacy – Focus sentences This week we are going to be learning all about writing accurate sentences with clear finger spaces, a capital letter and either a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark. Look at this picture and read the sentences and words in the word mat at the bottom. The three bears are having a picnic in the garden. It is a lovely warm sunny day. The bees and butterflies are enjoying the good weather too! But what are the rabbits doing? Are they hoping for a sandwich? Little Bear is enjoying a cool glass of juice and Mummy Bear is enjoying a strong cup of tea. Daddy Bear is enjoying his favourite food. Put 2 fish in one of the parts and 2 fish in the other part. Add them together and you will have 4 in the whole. You can use cubes to help you. Picture 2 shows double 3. Remember you can use the whole part model to help you. You could also write an equation. You would write 3+3=6 3 Picture 3 shows double 2 again but this time it shows how to work the answer out using a number line. Day 2 Physical Challenge! Musical Bumps Get your dancing shoes on! This game is best with at least 4 or more children playing and 1 additional person to stop the music. First the music is played and the children dance. When the music stops, the child who sits on their chair the slowest, is out.

Day 4 Physical Challenge! Crab walk The crab walk will really get the kids winded. Start by sitting on the ground with your hands and feet flat on the ground. Make sure your fingers are pointing away from your body or else you will put too much pressure on your wrists. Now, raise your torso up towards the sky, about level with your shoulders. Then start to walk with your hands and feet. Let’s see how long you and the kids can keep this up! What other animals can we look like?

Day 4 – Find a half lesson 1 Remember a half means 2 equal parts. The rectangle has one half shaded. There are 2 equal parts The pentagon does not have 2 equal parts, it does not have half shaded. 2 of the dots have been shaded, this is half of the dots. 1 of the sheep has been shaded, this is half of the sheep. Look at the squares. How many ways have they been spilt in half? Do they all have 2 equal pieces? Look at the pictures. Only half the shape has been drawn. What would the other half look like? Can you draw the other half? Remember it will be exactly the same. You can use a mirror to help you. The last drawing would make a heart shape.

Look at the pictures of the clouds. Both children think they have coloured in half, have they? Yes both children have coloured in half. Remember half means 2 equal parts. 2 clouds are coloured and 2 are not. Look at the buttons, this time we have been give 1 half. Remember each half has to be the same. If one half has 4 buttons the other half will have 4 buttons. We have 8 altogether. So half of 8 is 4.
