Cooperative Extension Mission: • Provide educational leadership impacting critical social, economic, agricultural & environmental issues Master Gardener Program Mission • Provide science-based horticultural information & training to the gardening public, based on U of A research specific to high desert climate, soils and plant materials
As a Master Gardener volunteer I understand agree to: 1. disseminate horticultural information to all who request it, without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or genetic information 2. comply with training, certification, hours-reporting and documentation requirements as delineated in the Master Gardener Volunteer Program Policy 3. provide my own transportation, pay my own expenses incurred as part of official volunteer activities, and receive no compensation 4. use the title of Master Gardener as it is intended: to signify highly trained individuals actively volunteering with the Master Gardener Volunteer Program
5. refrain from using alcohol or illegal drugs or possessing weapons during volunteer activities 6. cultivate, support and uphold trustful relationships with U of A staff and volunteers, and consistently exhibit professional, respectful manners to staff, volunteers, and the public 7. be respectful of the views of others, which may be contrary to my knowledge of science-based information
8. avoid comments/conversations/e-mail/social media postings, etc. pertaining to controversial topics such as religion, politics, and other personal views or language that may be offensive or disrespectful to others including clients, Extension staff, other Master Gardener volunteers, and our partnering organizations 9. abide by the spirit of the above rules in order to maintain my status as a Master Gardener volunteer I understand that non-compliance with any portion of this agreement may result in dismissal from the Master Gardener Volunteer Program.
I further understand that the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension will: • • disseminate University of Arizona horticultural information to all who request it, without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, genetic identity, or genetic information. provide equipment training, supervision and direction to volunteers communicate expectations and responsibilities of the program to the volunteers uphold and cultivate a respectful relationship between staff and volunteers

General Guidelines q May include “prep time” when reporting Volunteer hours (no separate entry on reporting form) q Continuing Education hours • You don’t need until fiscal year starting July 2021, but you should report them • Attend an in-person talk, attend horticulture class, participate on a webinar or view approved You. Tube presentations. Reading articles does not qualify. • Time “being educated” is reported as CE time only • Report hours monthly (after end of month; by 5 th of following month)

Hours you could have earned before today: • Attending MGA monthly meetings (Business meeting = Volunteer hours; speaker = 1 hr continuing education) Definition: Prep Time (in lieu of travel time) – 1 hour within area; 2 hours between areas • Attending Certification workshop Zoom call – May 19 th (Volunteer hours) • DCC input (Volunteer hours) • Anything else that was pre-approved
When You Reach 50 Hours • Your permanent nametag will be ordered • If you want your name to be displayed differently than it is on the MGA Directory notify your mentor or Mary Barnes in advance • Nametag and certificate will be presented at a monthly MGA meeting or mailed to you, or you may be asked to pick them up at the Extension office e My Nam
Additional Comments • E-mails will be addressed to “Master Gardeners” – includes Associate MGs • MGA Directory – only for MG related activities (shred old versions) • Submit class evaluations via email, U. S> Mail, text to Mary Barnes • Class completion certificates
