YORKTOWN ELEMENTARY NEWSLETTER Important Dates for December: 12 -5: Progress Reports 12 -15: UIL meet in Yorktown 12 -20: Christmas Program 9 a. m. in Auditoruim Parent/Child Project: You and your child can create a snowman together. You may use any materials; except for food items. We don't want to draw ants. These projects can be 2 D or 3 D and will be displayed in the hallway. They will be due by December 7 th so we can have them out for everyone to enjoy before the holidays. On Oct. 31 Y. E. Counselor Corner The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) will be administered

Counselor Corner The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) will be administered this Spring 2019. For elementary, the STAAR measures the statewide curriculum in Reading at Grades 3 -5; Writing at Grade 4; Mathematics at Grades 3 -5; and Science at Grade 5. Your child will be participating in the following STAAR testing: April 9 th th 4 grade WRITING 5 th grade MATH April 10 th 5 th grade READING May 13 th 3 rd & 4 th grade MATH 5 th grade MATH (retest) May 14 th 3 rd & 4 th grade READING 5 th grade READING (retest) May 15 th grade SCIENCE The students made ornaments to decorate a Christmas tree at the Yorktown museum. Parents and community members can bring a nonperishable food item to vote for our tree! Voting starts Thursday, Dec. 6 5 -7 p. m. Dec. 8 & 9 1 -4 p. m. Dec. 15&16 2 -5 p. m. **Due to the importance of the STAAR test, please make sure there are no scheduled appointments or no early pick-ups on these days. Students do have the tendency to rush when they know they will be picked up early. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, Brandi Olsovsky, Counselor RIDING The school bus is regarded as an extension of the classroom. The rules are in place for the safety of your students as well as others who ride the bus. Please remember that riding the school bus is a privilege. Your child is expected to be cooperative, maintain order and obey the rules. Students can be removed for misbehavior. College Day! To help encourage our students to talk about college and all of the possibilities, we will have college day on the 1 st Wednesday of each month. Wear your favorite college shirt!
