Rationale • Why Bring A Group To Hinning House? • "For many young people a visit to the outdoor centre is a watershed in their lives. The centre creates an atmosphere that encourages confidence, motivation and co-operation. There is also the sheer pleasure of living and working together on a challenging programme in such a beautiful, rural environment". • Why a full-week? • The benefits of visiting for a full-week are that it allows the children to access far more outdoor activities & results in greater opportunities for bonding & teambuilding.

Rationale • The centre provides high quality outdoor education programmes for young people of all ages across the primary & secondary range. • The aims are to encourage personal, social and environmental awareness and understanding. Strong curriculum links are developed during the stay. • The approach of the centre is broad, balanced and relevant. Outdoor education appeals to our curiosity, sense of adventure and urge to explore and is concerned with the development of the whole person through mind, body and spirit.

What Our Children Will Gain • 3. "Team Building"- The time away will focus on interpersonal skills - an essential part of the PSHE and Citizenship curriculum. Short problem solving sessions leading into longer and more elaborate team challenges involving, for example, orienteering, selfled walks and group tasks. Active reviewing of each session will focus upon aspects of teamwork such as communication, decision making and pupil leadership.

The week away… • Year Six will travel to the centre in two separate groups with one group of pupils visiting the centre during the first week & the other group visiting during the second week. • Friendships will be taken into account but a large part of the week is for children to form new friendships & develop the skills & experience of doing this. • They will be accompanied by a mixture of Y 6 staff, SLT & other members of staff from the school. • During this visit they will have the opportunity to live & work together in a different environment as a group, strengthening & making new friendships, experiencing life in the Lake District, tackling a range of challenges & reflecting on achievements.

Cost • The cost of the 5 day/4 night visit including travel, food & kit provided is approximately £ 250. We have tried hard to keep costs to a minimum & are looking at where possible school can help to support this. From looking around & comparing this is a very reasonable cost for such a trip, but nevertheless I am aware that this amount of money is not inconsiderable! • We will look to put a payment plan in place that is manageable & supportive over the course of Year 5 & Year 6, but we will need a commitment so that places can be booked • If you need further information or require a private chat regarding financing the trip please do not hesitate to speak to Mr Sutton.
