Pentane – Pellistor / Infra Red Storage areas Pentane has been used in plant processing for many years during the refinement of C 5 to C 9 molecules in the ‘cracking’ process. Also used as propellant pressurizing agent for consumer products: • Paint & coatings • Household products • Automotive • Insecticide (Foam & insulation) Large volume of pentane is stored in tank farms or in site storage areas where operators may be present. © 2018 Crowcon Detection Instruments. Hydrogen - Pellistor Battery rooms (Ships) The battery room of a ship is always under explosion risk as batteries release hydrogen during charging. Hydrogen is a highly explosive gas and it is therefore important to take necessary steps or actions while working inside the battery room during maintenance. During heavy recharge (When ship is docked) the concern is the ventilation system may not be exhausting build up of Hydrogen. A process improvement triggered by gas detection system could quickly react to dangerous levels of Hydrogen © 2018 Crowcon Detection Instruments. All rights reserved.
LPG – Pellistor / Infra Red LPG tank truck / Refinery loading stations Truck-loading bays allow trucks to load their products for transfer to gasoline filling stations, homes, office buildings, etc. These facilities are located in every refinery, fuel storage terminal, and gasoline storage terminal. The process of loading and unloading LPG gas comes with challenges with pressures which are effected by temperature. Surges in pressure can cause issues with catastrophic leaks or valve blockages. Because of the hazards associated with petroleum products, these areas must be monitored continuously. Seals and gaskets in these valves or pumps will, over prolonged exposure, invariably fail and provide the fuel that can come into contact with heated parts and an ignition source to develop into a fire. © 2018 Crowcon Detection Instruments. Carbon Dioxide – Infra Red Breweries The primary areas of concern about CO 2 in breweries are the fermentation and brite tanks. The massive amounts of gas housed in the vessels can easily overcome an average adult in seconds. Duties such as cleaning fermentation tanks, maintaining yeast disposal, and working in walk-in coolers are normal, daily brewery activities yet all are the most hazardous confined spaces for employees in the breweries because these areas can confine the gas – in a space where it cannot escape. Confined space is a concern for brewers is the walk-in cooler. Facilities with draft coolers already understand the hazard the walk-in cooler creates because it traps CO 2 and does not allow it to escape except when the cooler door is opened. Fixed monitors in the cooler can warn employees of CO 2 leaks prior to them entering the cooler. © 2018 Crowcon Detection Instruments. All rights reserved.
Ammonia – Electrochemical Industrial refrigeration applications are typically used in places like cold food storage, dairy processing, Beverage production, Ice rinks and heavy industry, these sorts of places. These are large scale cooling systems. Ammonia is also cheap to produce and energy efficient to use. it has the capability to absorb large amounts of heat as it evaporates, it also means the pipes and components can be thinner and smaller. On a large scale refrigeration process there are many potential leak hazards. Continuous monitoring is essential to protect operators from toxic characteristics. © 2018 Crowcon Detection Instruments. Chlorine – Electrochemical Swimming pool / Jacuzzi additive Chlorine is the chemical most often used to keep swimming pools and Jacuzzis free of bacteria that can be hazardous to humans. While the bacteria-killing properties of chlorine are very useful, chlorine also has some side effects that can be very irritant. Handling and storage of Chlorine used in keeping swimming pools bacteria free can be hazardous. Pool chemicals may become a hazard when they become wet by a small quantity of water or when they are improperly mixed, such as with other chemicals or reactive materials. Reports over the last five years still show a significant number of fires, toxic vapor releases, and personnel injuries in which pool chemicals were a factor © 2018 Crowcon Detection Instruments. Sulphur Dioxide – Electrochemical Power plant / Cement manufacturing Sulphur dioxide is one of the major air pollutants around the world. Power plants emitting the most sulfur dioxide, but cement kilns produce approximately 20 percent of all sulphur dioxide industrial emissions. SO 2 is generated both from the sulphur compounds in the raw materials and from sulphur in fuel. Many millions of pre-mature deaths worldwide may be linked to poor air quality. Global tightening of regulations of air quality and SO 2 in the environment are resulting in growing demand for solutions that monitor and reduce emissions. © 2018 Crowcon Detection Instruments.
