Writing Warm Up Have you ever been falsely
Writing Warm Up • Have you ever been falsely accused of something that you didn’t do? How did it feel? What actions did you take?
The Dot Game • Directions: – You will form groups based on your secret identities. – You will each receive a piece of paper. • Some are blank • Some have a dot drawn on them • There are fewer dots than non-dots – Secretly look at your dot. You must not show it to anyone!!!
Goal of Activity • The goal of the activity is to form as large of a group of “non-dot” members as possible • Winning the game: – The largest group of “non-dot” students will be declared winners. – The whole group will lose if there is one “dot” in your group – “Dots” will win for being the only dot in a group of non dots.
Advice • Since everyone in the class will deny having a dot you must look for any indication of suspicion. • If you suspect someone of having a dot you should tell your non-dot friends. • If you are a “dot” then you must bluff to convince others that you are not a dot.
Ready? • Any Questions? • On GO: You have 10 minutes to talk to each other and form groups. • When I turn off the lights, you must freeze ni your groups and all talking must end immediately.
Questions • How did you feel when you discovered you had a blank piece of paper? A dot? • What methods did you use to determine who had a dot? • For those who had dots, how did you convince others that you did not have a dot? • For those of you who were accused of being a “dot, ” how did you feel? What made you fearful or suspicious? • Given that there was no way to know for sure who was or was not a “dot”, why did you try so hard to convince others that certain class members were “dots”? • What emotions fueled this activity?
