ESSAY STRUCTURE I � Essays are designed to � persuade, � provoke, and � inform. Ø Essays are, therefore, exercises in logic. Their structures are designed to evoke intellectual and emotional responses in a reader. © Perry Glasser

ESSAY STRUCTURE II Ø To evoke an intellectual or emotional response in a reader, create a logical or emotional edifice. • Begin with your weakest or most commonly known argument, • Go on to lead the reader through your argument by marshalling evidence, • Conclude with your strongest argument. © Perry Glasser
