Let’s think of some ideas together! Without school rules, there would be chaons HELPFUL QUESTIONS: Why don’t you need school rules? Aren’t there enough rules in life to abide to? When I am an adult I will have to follow rules, why can’t I just enjoy my childhood?
Writing your introduction: Step 1 First of all: Read the question and decide what position to take in the written response. (Make sure that ONLY ONE side is taken in the opinion piece).
Writing your introduction: Step 2 Get straight to the point! Unlike essays, opinion pieces put the argument right out there in the first couple of lines. You can do better than: “Many people claim that rules in school are important and without them there would be chaos. In this article, I am going to discuss why I think we don’t need rules in schools. ”
Writing your introduction: Step 3 Grab the reader’s attention! Use devices How many more teenagers should suffer because or rules on this and rules on that? How many more students need to waste their time worrying all the time about whether they have done something that is against the rules? It is about time we recognised the negative effects of this on young people’s lives! Frustrating, demanding, unnecessary – how would you like to be hounded by teachers constantly because you simple didn’t tuck your shirt in? I strongly believe silly rules like this in school have no value in student’s lives.
Writing your first point Give your first reason Give a ‘catchy line’ fact and then introduce ideas you are going to talk about in your paragraph. Start with a well-accepted fact First reason why I think rules are not good It's all over the news: kids are struggling with mental health issues now more than ever before. Students are stressed and constantly anxious. Some students spend their weekends anxious about the fact they may have the wrong shoes or that they’ve lost their school jumper or their planners. How would you like to feel like this? How would you like to be hounded by teachers constantly about these pointless things? I strongly believe ridiculous school rules have no value in students’ lives. Your overall opinion on the statement.
