What is an Imaginative Story? 3
4 “Imaginative story is a piece of writing that expresses ideas and thoughts in a creative or fantasized way. ”
Elements of an imaginative story: • The writer gets to express feelings and fantasies instead of just presenting the facts. • It can also contain magic or supernatural elements. • An imaginative story is like as if you are in a dream. 5

Just like any story, Imaginative story also has; Characters: The people (or sometimes animals or robots) in the story Setting: The place and time where the story happens Plot: The events that happen in the story and the reasons why they happened Conflict: A problem that the characters experience 7
How to write an Imaginative Story?
9 To do any type of writing we should always follow the; Writing Process
Step 1: Think it out Before you write, always work on the structure of your story. Organize your ideas into a story map. Jot down the basic elements of your story; – what type of characters you want to have in your story, for e. g. , people, or animals, or unicorns , or superheroes. �� 10
Think it out What do you want to be the setting of your story? Where do you imagine yourself or where do you want your character to be? What will be the main events around which the story will revolve and the problem the characters will face? �� �� �� 11
Step 2: Build your first draft • Create interesting opening paragraphs. It should intrigue the reader or put questions in their mind. • Use powerful adjectives, verbs, adverbs. • How do you reach your imaginary world? - through a door, through a hole in the garden, in the shed, etc. 12
Build your first draft • Describe your imaginary world. • Use sensory words. What can you see, hear, smell or feel? • If a mythical or imaginary creature appears, then what does it look like? 13
Build your first draft • What happens next? • Think of what the creature does. - Is it nasty or is it friendly? - Does it chase you? - Does it help you do something? 14
Build your first draft • What is the complication? – Does the creature capture you? – Does it take you to its den or a cave? – Or take you on a ride to its mystical land? 15
Build your first draft • The Ending. – How does the problem get solved? How do you manage to escape? – Remember that the reader must KNOW it is the end of the story WITHOUT you writing “The End. ” 16
Step 3: Revise your work Now that you are done with the basic structure of your story; IMPROVE IT!
Step 4: edit your work After revising, check your work with the help of a checklist. Step 5: Submit it to the teacher 18
Let’s look at some examples: Harold And The Purple Crayon Harold is a young boy who uses his magical purple crayon to create anything he wants. When he draws with his purple crayon, his creations come to life. Harold draws an apple tree with his purple crayon and then climbs right up the tree to pick an apple! What element of imagination can you find? 19
Example: Where The Wild Things Are Max gets into trouble at home and is sent to his room without his dinner. Instead of moping in his room, he decides to create a world with monsters and wild things to which he can escape. He leaves his bedroom behind and romps around the magical land until he eventually decides it's time for him to go home. What element of imagination can you find? 20
Example Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs Can you imagine a world in which meatballs fall from the sky instead of rain? The townspeople don't even have to go to the grocery store because they just eat whatever falls from the sky. The weather takes a turn for the worst, and suddenly all the food becomes huge and poses a threat to the town. As a result, everyone in the town decides to move to another town. What element of imagination can you find? 21
