Fall Precautions Goal of this Training �To identify risk factors for falling �To reduce the risk of falling �To eliminate/reduce fall hazards �To reduce the fall incident rates �To reduce the fall severity/injury rate
Fall Precautions An individual is at risk at falling if he: �Takes blood pressure medications �Take four or more medications �Suffers from seizures
Fall Precautions An individual is at risk of falling if he: �Wears slippery shoes �Has difficulty distinguishing depth �Takes sleeping pills
Fall Precautions PREVENTIONS �Clean up spills immediately. �Ensure hallways are well lit. �Use non-skid bath tub/shower mat. �Securely fasten throw rugs with double sticking tape. �Make sure shoes are well laced up.
Fall Precautions PREVENTIONS �Repair broken or worn steps �Replace missing hand railings �Keep walkways free from clutter �Keep items the consumers use in easy reach, so they do not have to stretch to reach the item
Fall Precautions If an individual in the home falls: �Ask the consumer if he is hurt �Examine the consumer for injuries �Complete an incident report �Follow up with the individual to make sure he is okay
Fall Precautions If an individual falls, examine the situation to see what can be do to prevent a reoccurrence.
Fall Precautions �If an individual falls more than once in one week, notify his physician.
Fall Precautions If an individual falls, be supportive to the individual. He may feel embarrassed and your support will give him comfort.
