Social Darwinism • Since Euro countries were stronger* ---they “should win” • “…since weaker people can’t defend themselves, it’s our duty take them over. ” • *had machine guns, steam boat, telegraph, medicines
4. Religious Motives A. “Missionary Spirit”: Euros wanted to Christianize the colonized people – Bring hospitals, schools, churches
