World War Looms
q. The Treaty of Versailles left a lot of anger and resentment following WWI. q. Throughout the world many new democracies faced lots of social and economic problems. q. With no answers to the many problems that plagued European countries authoritarian dictators were able to seize power.
TOTALITARIANISM In a totalitarian government, individuals have no rights, and the government suppresses all opposition.
FASCISM q. A type of government where the state has all control of personal lives. q Is led by an all powerful dictator. q. Glorifies the military and uses nationalism and racism.
NAZISM This was a form of fascism practiced in Germany.
COMMUNISM q. Practiced in the Soviet Union. q. This form of government stresses no class system or religion.
MILITIRISM q. Practiced in Japan q. This form of government relies on the military to solve all of societies problems.
Benito Mussolini q. Takes over Italy in 1922 and introduces fascism to the world. q. He wants to rebuild the Roman Empire and make the Mediterranean Sea into an “Italian Lake. ” q. In 1935 he invades Ethiopia located in Africa.
ADOLF HITLER q. Hitler took over Germany in 1933. q. He despises Jews and wants them all killed. q. He also wants to take over and control all of Eastern Europe. He calls it Lebensraum or living space. q. He believes the Germanic people, or Aryans, to be the master race.
JOSEPH STALIN q“Man of Steel. ” q. Ruthlessly applies communism on the Soviet Union.
HIDEKI TOJO q. Tojo was the prime minister of Japan. q. He and his generals want China and Asia to enhance the power of Japan.
