Causes of the War • Imperialism- “big guy” tries to become more powerful by taking advantage of “little guy” • Nationalism- thinking you (your country) deserves better treatment than others. • Militarism- “might makes right” the bully is stronger so his ideas are right.

Why did the U. S. join this mess? • German U-boat sunk the Lusitania • W. Wilson wanted to stay out , but had to help Britain after the sinking of the Lusitania • April 1917 - Wilson asks Congress to delcare war on Germany
