There will be a question and answer session that will not be limited to the planned topics, but will be open to the needs or questions of the attendees. v Latino Migrant Farm workers: Uncovering the Hidden Reality v Thursday, March 24, 2016, Santa Fe College, Room WA 104 at 7 PM v Robin Lewy, Director of the Rural Women’s Health Project, Dr. Rosana Resende, Professor of Latino American Studies. v Dr. Antonio Tovar, Principal Investigator, Farm workers Association of Florida v Join this panel discussion of academics and practitioners to learn about the historical and current conditions of Latino farm workers, their experiences of isolation and inclusion, and how their rights have been and continue to be violated. Dr. Rosana Resende will highlight the connection and undue burdens associated with gender, migration, and farm workers in the United States. Dr. Antonio Tovar will discuss the occupational risks of engaging in farm work in Florida. Lastly, Robin Lewy will explore the challenge of providing healthcare to Latino farm workers in North Central Florida. These three presenters will highlight the work that non-profit groups and government agencies are doing to secure the basic rights of this neglected segment of U. S. society.

An intrepid and highly lauded group of tomato pickers from Southern Florida — the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) -- reveals the human cost in our food supply and the complicity of large buyers of produce like fast food and supermarkets. Their story is one of hope and promise for the triumph of morality over corporate greed — to ensure a dignified life for farm workers and a more humane, transparent food chain. A panel discussion will follow the film.

Born in Cuba and raised in both Panama and Puerto Rico, Dr. Duany has held visiting research and teaching appointments at several U. S. universities, including Harvard, Connecticut, Wisconsin, Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and the City University of New York.

Please *double check* registration confirmation, as some details may change during planning. v India Fest/Health Screening-Apr 9 th v Silent Auction for the March of Dimes v Fri. , March 18, 11: 30 a. m. to 1: 00 p. m. , M-147 Our chapter will be hosting a silent auction of gift baskets on March 23 rd - just in time for Easter. We are asking departments, clubs, units, programs and anyone else to put together a basket for auction to raise money toward the Santa Fe goal of $10, 000. The group/person that donates the basket that brings the most money will be awarded a pizza party. v It's easy to put one together - pick a theme and go from there. Ideas: children's basket, care/wash, hobbies, enchanted evening, wake me up, family fun - the sky is the limit. Target date to have the baskets ready is March 21 st.
