The Information System

• The company that we audited is the World Sports Café • The World Sports Café is a service type of business and also dwells into the market of retail • This company employs less than one hundred workers • The World Sports Café earns annual revenue between $500, 000 to $1, 000 • There a total of 10 computers inside The World Sports Cafe, seven of these computers are used strictly for inputting data into the system. Such data would include food orders and employee timecards. • The three remaining computers are connected to the internet for the purpose of e-mail, purchase of raw material, supplies, and collecting information on the internet. • The World Sports Café uses IT to help with business processes such as; shipping, manufacturing, billing, purchasing, ordering, and sales.

Input - Output • Input is the capture or collection of raw data from within the organization or from its external environment for processing in an information system • An example of input that would happen on a regular basis would be the inputting of customers food orders into the system • Output is the distribution of processed information to the people who will use it or to the activities to which it will be used • An example of output would be the cooks processing the inputted information, preparing the order correctly, and then sending the food out to the customer

Controllable - Uncontrollable • Controllable items are inputs that can be changed given several weeks notice • Some controllable inputs The World Sports Café holds is to change menu items and food prices • Uncontrollable inputs are those that can be changed only by changing the system boundaries • An uncontrollable input that the World Sports Café deals with is added or subtracting more computers on the floor. This would require a change in the system boundaries

The System

• The system used by the World Sports Café is called Robus • This system provides many helpful tasks including storing all sales records and cash out amounts for each server and bartender • All data that this system receives can be viewed and printed out by all managers to help determine what they are doing correctly or what is in need of change • A hard drive is used to store all data for the restaurant, this data is only stored for a limited amount of time and then erased • If there is a problem with the system, the maintenance company outside of the restaurant will be called and all necessary repairs will be handled by the repair company • The restaurant uses multiple computers to place orders and pay tabs, the orders travel through the in house network to the kitchen where the orders will be processed
