Status of R-WIP in RA-VI • WIGOS Implementation Plan – At the RA VI WIGOS workshop (Madrid, May 2013) a draft plan was further detailed and submitted for the approval at the 16 th RA VI session – At the 16 th RA-VI session (Helsinki, September 2013) ü Regional WIGOS Implementation Plan for RA-VI was adopted (Resolution 4. 4/1), as a living document which will be updated according to future needs ü WG-TDI was re-established, with WIGOS Implementation being a main priority for next intersession period. ICG WIGOS-4, Geneva, 17 - 20 February 2015 2/15
1. Status of R-WIP in RA-VI • WG TDI & Task Team WIGOS Implementation – TT-WIP was established under WG TDI to tackle the required tasks for WIGOS implementation in RA VI – Members and To. R are approved for this task team – Sub-task team for radar data exchange (TT-RDE) was established to prepare a report for radar data exchange conditions in RA VI – Key activities for the next intersessions period are defined and tackled – Some RA VI members have already a fully or partial WIGOS compliant observation network (DWD, Meteo Swiss, UKMO, …) RA VI WIGOS Workshop is foreseen to transfer experience ICG WIGOS-4, Geneva, 17 - 20 February 2015 3/15
1. Status of R-WIP in RA-VI • Progress and Results of the Sub-TT on Radar Data Exchange – In collaboration with WMO, Turkish State Meteorological Service developed a global radar data base which is accessible via web page http: //wrd. mgm. gov. tr/ – This data base can be used as a beneficial tool to establish a platform for radar data exchange in a global and regional framework – Collaboration with regional projects (BALDRAD, NORTHRAD) with respect on integration issues OPERA, – Practical experience of bilateral radar data exchange between Turkey and Russian Federation during Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games ICG WIGOS-4, Geneva, 17 - 20 February 2015 4/15

3. Next steps • WIGOS TT and Sub-TT of Radar data exchange continue their work • National WIGOS implementation: examples of good practice from Members having WIGOS already implemented will be advertised • Sustain link between regional experts and CBS OPAG-IOS Chairs WG-TDI should be invited to CBS sessions • WIGOS Workshop in RA VI to transfer knowledge, experience and skills from NMHSs which already have implemented WIGOS compliant networks Financing has not been yet assured! ICG WIGOS-4, Geneva, 17 - 20 February 2015 14/15
4. Risks • There is no sufficient awareness of WIGOS among some members WIGOS does not always get the necessary priority • Different internal regulations and plans in NMHSs hamper the implementation of the regional WIGOS implementation plan • Lack of face to face meetings of the task teams Communication structure are not efficient yet • Lack of financial resources for the TT work. • Critical - in particular - is the financial uncertainty of the WIGOS Workshop in RA VI!
