World Impacts • IT has changed the world we live in with the invention of many cool gadgets! It has had a great impact on society, with the invention of mobile phones and i. Pods as well as other gadgets. • Of course others may argue that it is annoying and interrupts their lives.

Positive Social Impacts • People can talk with people around the world using Skype and chat rooms!! Poople can use things like MSN to keep in touch with family members that are somewhere else in the world!! • Facebook lets people socialise with their friends online keep up with their news.

Negative Social Impacts • People are spending more and more time indoors in front of their computer screens! • This means people are spending less time out with their friends and family because they are on the computer! How many hours a day do you spend on the computer!?

Local Impacts People with disabilities or live far away from work, can work from home easier. People have been replaced in their jobs by robots that are faster and cheaper to run. This means they will have to find new jobs or be retrained, which is very expensive.

Economic Impacts • Jobs are available in the IT industry that were not 40 years ago. • Employers can find people from a much larger area to work for them, so they can get the best person for the job.

Negative Economic Impacts • People have been replaced in their jobs by robots that are faster and cheaper to run. Local shops are losing money from people buying things online rather than from them!

Ethical Impacts • Nearly everything you do is recorded by CCTV cameras or internet service providers!! • The Data Protection Act (1998) means that information about you can only be gathered legally and only for the reason it was needed in the first place • Plagiarism is where someone copies someone else’s work without changing the wording.

Legal Impacts • The Copyright, Patents and Designs Act 1998 means that all music books and videos are protected by the LAW. • You are not allowed to…. • Rent software without the owner saying so. • Make a copy and then give it to a friend. The Computer Misuse act (1990) means that…. You cannot look at someone else’s files without them saying you can. Altering the stuff on someone elses computer without them saying so.

Unequal Access • While the UK is a rich country, not everyone living here has internet access! • Some people cannot afford broadband elderly people may not be able to use the internet as well as others. • COULD YOU LIVE WITHOUT THE INTERNET? • The people of Uganda have very limited internet access and technology. • About 3 in 10 people have mobile phones. Out of the 27 million people who live there, 3. 2 have internet access
