WHAT IS DEVELOPMENT? �Development is about making life better for people. It is about improving the important things in peoples live such as their health, food, housing & education. �It helps people to have higher living standards & a better quality of life. DEVELOPING COUNTRY � � DEVELOPED � COUNTRY
TOO MANY PEOPLE? � One of the reason for the less development is POPULATION. � If the population increases than it will be difficult to fulfill everyone’s need. There will be lack of food, shortages of jobs, lack of money for healthcare, education etc. � These places are called overpopulated. � Overpopulation is when the resources of an area cannot support the population living there. � To help development & improve living standards some countries make efforts to limit population growth by reducing birth rates by making strict laws & policies.
HOW DO JOBS AFFECT DEVELOPMENT �The proportion of the population working in primary, secondary or tertiary jobs in any place is called the employment structure. �In countries like Indonesia & India most of their labour force works in primary industries like farming & mining. It is the only thing on which their life runs. �In countries like China & Bangladesh people work in factories & most of the people work in secondary industries. �In developed countries like uk & usa most of the people work in tertiary & secondary industries.
HOW DOES TRADE AFFECT DEVELOPMENT? �No countries have everything that it wants. All have to buy or sell things to each other. The exchanging of goods & materials is called trade. �Goods sold to other countries are called exports. Goods that are bought by a country are called imports.

This is because poor countries mainly export primary goods while, richer countries mainly export manufacture goods. PRIMARY GOODS are low Value products. They include foodstuff, minerals. MANUFACTURED GOODS are high value products. They include machinery, cars & electrical goods.
IS DEVELOPMENT SPREAD EVENLY? �All countries have different living standards. Some are rich, have high standards of living & are said to be developed. Others are poor, have low standards of living & are described as developing. �There are many ways of measuring development. The most common & easiest way is to measure wealth using GROSS NATIONAL PRODUCT(GNP).
HOW CAN giving them aid. Aid is a form of help. It THE RICH HELP THE can be given in 2 main ways: POOR? The first is as short-term aid. It helps �One way to help countries develop is by solve immediate problems. It brings help quickly to people affected by disasters & emergencies. The second is long-term aid. The aim of this type of aid is to improve basic living standards & enable people to make better use of their own resources. AID CAN BE GIVEN IN MANY WAYS LIKE: Skilled people Food Projects Equipment Money Emergency assistance
SHOULD WE GIVE AID? �Aid comes from many different sources. The most common ways to give help is by charities. �There arguments as to whether we should give aid. Some people think that aid can be damaging & that people should help themselves. Others point out that we all live in the same world & we all rely on each other for our survival.
