Responding to different types of Emergencies at school The following should be in place – q Evacuation plans and procedures for each emergency must appear on the exit door of every room in the school q The Alarm Signals signifying each emergency must also appear (both with and without power) 2 PPT 2 – EMERGENCY PROCEDURES FOR SCHOOLS
Determine the Level of the Emergency LEVEL 1: Handled by school personnel. E. g. temporary power outages and/or minor first aid cases. LEVEL 2: Moderate to severe emergency Handled by school personnel & assistance from outside agencies. E. g. a fire, minor sports injury. LEVEL 3: Major disaster – handled by outside agencies E. g. bomb threat, a shooting or stabbing at the school. 3 PPT 2 – EMERGENCY PROCEDURES FOR SCHOOLS
Determine Immediate Response Actions This could include any of the following: q Standby Alert q Duck, Cover and Hold q Shelter in Place q Secure Building q Evacuate Building q Off-Site Evacuation q All Clear 4 PPT 2 – EMERGENCY PROCEDURES FOR SCHOOLS
