Work smarter, not harder and other assorted clichés Microsoft suite to make your life easier Rene’ Hauser “Life gave me lemons. I brought my own tequila”
Why are we here? We have to “up our game”. • Greater efficiency with grading and providing feedback • Save time by using video: A picture is worth 1000 words • No longer need to send 17 emails to schedule a meeting
First up: My strategy for grading • One click download all assignments from Moodle • Extract all files (I save to a file labelled “grading”) • Download gradebook • Copy and paste rubric to each assignment (ctrl+c, ctrl+v) • Use track changes to provide feedback – Baby got feedback • Save each file as you grade, record grade and feedback in the excel sheet • Upload all word files as a zipped file - select all files, right click, send to, compressed folder
Track changes – getting on the right track • Open the document on your desktop • Enable editing • Go to review and click “track changes” • From the drop down, select “all markup” • Find at least two errors in the document and correct them • Add a comment • Students need to accept or reject changes and delete comments • They also need to turn off track changes before they begin working again
Using video – I said it once, don’t make me say it again. • Zoom video conferencing – can use directly through Moodle • Can get a free personal account zoom. us • SBU has accounts • Share screen, record • End meeting and video will save to a folder • Can upload to Moodle, google drive or You Tube
Last but not least – Outlook calendar • Entering appointments • Viewing others’ calendars • Scheduling meetings • Sync to phone
