Work Experience 2019 -20 As you were told in the assembly you have two options for arranging a work placement. We will go through both of these options now.

Work Experience 2019 -20 Option Two: Self placement This option entails you finding an organisation that is willing to offer you work experience for the week Monday 22 June - Friday 26 June 2020. This is the preferred option

Work Experience 2019 -20 Option Two: Self placement Remember that work experience is undertaken to help you make a more informed choice about what to do Post 16. Therefore if you have no interest in working with children DON’T go to your old primary school just because it feels familiar - you might need to go out of your comfort zone and try something new.

Work Experience 2019 -20 If you find an organisation that is willing to offer you a work placement, they need to complete the self placement form.

Work Experience 2019 -20 LEBC will visit all self placements. They will check that the organisation has the necessary insurance and will also carry out a health and safety assessment.

Work Experience 2019 -20 If you arrange a self placement you will need to bring the signed self placement form into school along with the main application form. You still need to complete the main application form in case your self placement cannot go ahead.

Work Experience 2019 -20 Last year a couple of self placements couldn’t go ahead because the students weren’t 16 years old and the organisation’s Employer’s Liability Insurance didn’t cover individuals under 16 years old. Make sure that the employer knows you’ll be 14 or 15 years old at the time of the placement.

Work Experience 2019 -20 Option One: LEBC arrange a placement for you based on your choices. Read pages 4 and 5 of the student guide.

Work Experience 2019 -20 Now look through the guide, reading the jobs available in each sector

Work Experience 2019 -20 You are unlikely to get a placement in roles where there is limited availability

Work Experience 2019 -20 You need to select three sectors that you would like to do a work placement in and you need to select the job role you would like within each of these sectors.

Work Experience 2019 -20 Your choices need to go on this section of the application form.

Work Experience 2019 -20 You then need to work out where you can travel to - obviously the more locations you can get to the better. However, be realistic. Remember you will need to get there every day for five days. Make sure your parents/carers are involved in completing this because placements will be allocated based on this information.

Work Experience 2019 -20 Think about where you can walk to, could you get public transport? - how much would this cost? , could parents/carers give you a lift?
