The History of Buddhism • It was all started by Siddhartha Guatama, later known as Buddha, who was a prince in Lumbini, 2500 years ago. • He was very unhappy in his royal life, so he set off on a 6 year journey, exploring other religions. • After his long journey and much meditation he was finally “enlightened”. • He believed he found the key to human happiness. The Noble Eightfold Path • • • It taught 8 simple rules: To know the truth To intend to resist evil To respect life, property, and morality To not say anything to hurt others To work at a job that does not injure others To try to free one's mind from evil To be in control of one's feelings and thoughts To practice appropriate forms of concentration
Nirvana • By following the 8 fold path anyone can achieve release from selfishness and pain
