MAINTAINING DOCUMENTS AND MACROS (OUTLINES) • Outlines are used to organize research papers. • When working with the Outline feature you can use the following features to change your outline. • You use the promote arrow to make things more important and you use the demote arrow to make things less important. These are found in the paragraph group. They are now called decrease list level and increase list level.
MAINTAINING DOCUMENTS AND MACROS (OUTLINES) • If you want to view only the main headings of your outline, you can collapse the outline. • If you want to view the main headings and subheadings of your outline, you can expand the outline.
MAINTAINING DOCUMENTS AND MACROS • Macros are shortcut of key to insert a preformatted page or text. Secretaries use these all the time to put in text into letters. Think of Alt+V is used to paste text. This would be an example of a macro. • Master documents will organize a research paper. You could have all of the heading sections, the title page, thesis, introduction and works cited page in a master document. Think of how page numbers are put into a document. Aubrey is typing a 10 page research paper for her Business Law Class on the branches of the US government and she opened the file on the legislative branch heading of her paper. PROTECTING AND SHARING DOCUMENTS • Check Compatibility can be used to make sure your document works with older versions of Word. • Check Accessibility will make sure that people with disabilities will be able to view all of the content in the document.
USING ADVANCED OPTIONS (THE BACKSTAGE) • These advanced options are also in the backstage. • Change Display Options could be used to show formatting marks by default such as the show/hide marks. • Change Save Options would allow you to save to a different location. • You can Personalize Word to do things like show you are the author of all your documents.
