Splitting a document window 1. On the View tab, in the Window group, click Split. 2. Move the gray bar until the split is where you want it to be. – The document window splits into two windows, each with its own scroll bar. 3. To resize the windows, drag the dividing bar 4. Viewing documents side by side 1. On the View tab, in the Window group, click View Side by Side. 2. Select the two documents that you want to view. – The two documents appear side by side, taking up the whole screen. 3. Switching between documents Click any part of the window to which you want to switch, if it's visible. Click or hover the Word icon on the taskbar. When a list of open documents appears, click the document you want to switch to. – Depending on the graphics options you've set, this will be either a list of documents titles or thumbnails of each window. Formatting characters Font Also called font face or typeface, this is the actual shape of the characters. Examples include Arial, Helvetica, and Times New Roman. Font size The height, in points, of the largest capital characters. Width is adjusted accordingly. Font style The term style is used in different ways in Word. In this case, it refers the whether or not the font is bold, italic, underline, or any combination of these. Font color You can choose from many defined colors or make a color by entering specific color and brightness values. Plus, you can adjust underline color independently of font color. These include strikethrough, superscript, and subscript. Effects Not to be confused with text effects, which are graphic effects such as 3 -D and drop shadows. Copyright © 2015 30 Bird Media LLC

Using Format Painter 1. Select the text with the style you want to copy. – If you want to copy the paragraph style as well, select the entire paragraph, including the paragraph mark at the end. 2. Click Format Painter. – To format multiple items, double-click Format Painter. – The mouse pointer will show a paintbrush. 3. Drag the pointer over text you want to format. 4. Formatting paragraphs Alignment The paragraph can be justified right, center, left, or full. Outline level The level of the paragraph in a bulleted or numbered list. Indentation You can indent the left and/or right edge of the paragraph. You can also indent the first line only, or create a hanging indent. Spacing Color and border Spacing before and after a paragraph, as well as the line spacing within it. You can put a line border around a paragraph and change its background color.
