Woodrow Wilson • Woodrow Wilson was the 28 th president of the United States of America. • He developed progressive reforms as president. • In 1917 he lead the United States into World War I to make the world “safe for democracy. ”
Birthplace of Woodrow Wilson was born in 1856 in Virginia. After graduating from Princeton, he went on to graduate from the University of Virginia Law School. In 1902 he became the president of Princeton University.
Woodrow Wilson and Isolationism • Wilson declared a strict policy of neutrality. • In Wilson’s 1916 Presidential campaign his slogan was: "He Kept Us Out of the War". • Wilson was concerned about the large number of people in the country who had been born in Germany and Austria.
Wilson signs declaration of war On the 2 nd of April, Wilson asked for permission to go to war. This was approved in the Senate on the 4 th April by 82 votes to 6, and two days later, in the House of Representatives, by 373 to 50.
Wilson and the League of Nations Woodrow Wilson struggled with the U. S. Senate to try to establish the League of Nations and the Treaty of Versailles at the end of World War I. Wilson was awarded the 1919 Nobel Peace Prize. The United States never joined the League of Nations.
